  • つぎの英文の和訳を教えてください。Winston Churchill was a very talented speaker and writer. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature for his historical and biographical works in 1953. He also had a talent as a painter as well as a soldier and politician. But he is most famous as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during World War Ⅱ. Churchill jointed the army when he was 20 years old wrote articles for newspapers about the battles he saw around the world. He published his first book in 1897, which described British Military operations in India. He even became a hero in a war in South Africa: he was captured but escaped, traveling 480 kilometers to safety.Churchill left the army in 1899 to start a career in politics. Though there were ups and downs, he became an experienced politician. When World War Ⅱ started, people felt he would be a strong leader and he became Prime Minister in 1940. Great Britain was having a tough fight against Germany, but Churchill encouraged the people to continue their struggle. One of his most famous lines is, “We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.” Thanks to Churchill’s skill as a politician and his friendship with the United States President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, he got important assistance from the United States to keep fighting against the Germans. Because he refused to surrender, the Allied Powers were able to defeat the Axis Powers to win the war. He also played an important role in planning the future of the world after the war.Churchill served two terms as Prime Minister and resigned in 1955. He was knighted in 1953 and received many awards and honors, including becoming the first Honorary Citizen of the United States in 1963. He was also the first person who was not a king to appear on British money.
